Earth Day

To the Universe: Song of Love

The winds assail Jupiter in the trees
star-buffet, in the leafy night
in the throaty dark --
And it is you i love, o world
o world
alone, shining
in a darkened universe
                keening tree-toads
The night is heavy
and moist
with unwritten poems
o world
and old images reborn
                the jangle of dreams
with your roots
                imaginary and real
become complex.
Against the moon lamp
eye-roots, frozen
frightened by gaps in time
veining, pulsing,
imposed like forms
on the void between stars this heart
thimble vessel
a thousand times filled but not depleting
                or even telling
I am endlessly small
finite unbounded
in your overpouring infinities, world
shining, alone.
